Voleo Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what information Voleo (“Voleo,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the app. By creating an account or using Voleo, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information You Provide
When you create an account and use Voleo, we collect:
- Account information: your email address and the sign-in method you use (including Google sign-in).
- Profile details you enter: name, username, home city, bio, skill level, profile photo, and any social links you choose to add.
- Content you create: game listings you host, messages you send, game results you log, and any other content you submit through the app.
You choose what to put in your profile. You can leave optional fields blank.
2. Information Collected Automatically
We keep automatic data collection minimal and do not run our own analytics, product-tracking, or crash-reporting tools. Some technical information is collected in limited ways:
- Advertising measurement (Meta SDK): the app includes the Meta (Facebook) SDK, which we use to measure whether our ads on Facebook and Instagram lead to app installs. It automatically sends Meta basic app events — such as that the app was installed or opened — together with device information (such as device model, operating system version, and an app-level identifier). We have disabled collection of Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA), we do not use this data to track you across other companies’ apps or websites, and ad results are reported to us in aggregate through Apple’s privacy-preserving SKAdNetwork system. Meta’s handling of this data is governed by Meta’s own privacy policy.
- Server logs: our servers keep operational logs (for example, that a request was made, timestamps, and error information) to run and troubleshoot the service. These logs stay within our own infrastructure and are not shared with third-party analytics providers.
- Approximate network location: your IP address, which may indicate a general geographic region, is visible to our servers as part of normal internet communication.
- Platform-level data: the app stores (Apple App Store, Google Play) and the tools we use to build and deliver the app (such as Expo) may independently collect standard diagnostic, crash, and usage information at the operating-system or platform level. That collection is governed by those companies’ own privacy policies.
We do not track your precise device location in the background. (See Location, below.)
3. Location Information
Voleo uses location to help you find and post games:
- When you search for a city or use location features, we use that information to show you nearby games and to set your home city.
- We store your home city as a general geographic coordinate so we can show you games near you and, if you enable them, send you notifications about games happening in your area.
This is approximate, city-level location. We do not continuously track your location, and we do not access your location in the background.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information described above to:
- Create and operate your account;
- Calculate your VAR (Volleyball Activity Rating);
- Show you games, leaderboards, and other players;
- Enable hosting, joining, and messaging;
- Deliver notifications you’ve enabled;
- Keep the app secure and prevent fraud, abuse, and Terms violations;
- Diagnose problems and improve the app;
- Respond to feedback and support requests you send us.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not give advertisers the content of your profile, messages, or games. As described in Sections 2 and 6, we share limited technical app-event data with Meta for the purpose of measuring our own advertising.
5. What Other Players Can See
Voleo is a social app, so some of your information is visible to other players:
- Your profile — name, username, photo, home city, bio, skill level, social links, and VAR rating — can be viewed by other users.
- You appear on the leaderboard unless you hide yourself from it in your settings.
- When you join a game, your participation is shared with that game’s players. For games with an “Open” format, the confirmed players list is public: anyone who can view the game can see that you’ve confirmed.
- Messages and posts you send are visible to their intended recipients (other players or game participants).
Keep this in mind when deciding what to add to your profile, what to post, and which games to join. Information you make public may be seen, copied, or shared by others outside our control.
6. Who We Share Information With
We share information only as needed to run the app, comply with the law, or protect people. Specifically:
Service providers. We use trusted third-party companies to provide core functionality. They may process your information only to provide services to us:
- Google (including Firebase) — handles account creation and sign-in (authentication via Firebase), Google sign-in, mapping/location services for finding courts, push notification delivery to Android devices (via Firebase Cloud Messaging), and storage of profile photos (Google Cloud Storage). Receives your email, name, sign-in credentials/tokens, location search queries, and push delivery data. Your use of Google services is also subject to Google’s privacy policy.
- Expo — provides app build/delivery tooling and push notification delivery. Receives a device push token and related delivery information.
- Railway and Neon — host our application servers and database, where your account and app data are stored.
- Meta Platforms, Inc. — receives the advertising-measurement app events and device information described in Section 2 so we can measure the performance of our ads on Facebook and Instagram. Meta processes this data under its own terms and privacy policy.
Other players. As described in Section 5, certain information is shared with other users through normal use of the app.
Legal and safety. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or where we believe in good faith it’s necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Voleo — including investigating fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms.
Business transfers. If Voleo is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We’ll notify you of any change in ownership or use of your information.
7. How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the app.
When you delete your account, we deactivate it immediately and permanently delete your personal data — including your profile, stats, messages, and hosted game listings — within 30 days, except where we’re required to retain certain information by law, or where limited information must be retained to operate the service for other users (for example, a game’s historical results may continue to reflect that a game occurred, in de-identified or aggregate form, after your personal profile is removed).
We may retain anonymized or aggregated data that does not identify you.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You have control over your information:
- Edit your profile at any time in the app.
- Hide yourself from the leaderboard in your settings.
- Manage notifications — you can turn off push notifications at any time in your device’s system settings.
- Delete your account — you can permanently delete your account at any time from Settings. This removes your personal data as described in Section 7.
California residents (CCPA/CPRA). If you’re a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose;
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
- Delete your personal information;
- Correct inaccurate personal information;
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information — we do not sell your personal information. Our sharing of app-event data with Meta for advertising measurement (Section 2) may be considered “sharing” under California law; to opt out, contact us at the email below and we will honor verified requests as required by law;
- Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will verify your request (typically by confirming control of your account email) and respond within the timeframes required by law.
9. Children’s Privacy
Voleo is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a person under 18 has created an account or provided us with personal information, please contact us at [email protected], and we will delete it.
10. Security
Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider, and we take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll notify you through the app or by other reasonable means and update the “Last updated” date above. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect means you accept the revised Policy.
